The JOVD (Youth Organization for Freedom and Democracy) is a liberal political youth organization that has been in existence since 1949. Since 2000, the JOVD has been officially affiliated with the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD). However, in political terms, the JOVD is completely independent, meaning that it can determine its own positions. For example, the JOVD is in favor of the legalization of soft drugs, contrary to the VVD.
The JOVD has various departments. The department in Tilburg is called Hart van Brabant. In this department, you can get to know other liberal young people in an accessible way. As a JOVD member, you can decide how much you want to get out of your membership: JOVD members have the opportunity to take courses, participate in debates, gain board experience, and make friends for life. Nothing is mandatory, but everything is possible. Our members are true liberals and may come from political parties other than just the VVD, such as D66, JA21, or Volt.
Every month, JOVD Hart van Brabant organizes substantive but also enjoyable activities. We have visited Schrobbelèr, have a monthly drink, invite political figures to our department, and have organized various courses where you can learn debating, presenting, negotiating, and understand what liberalism entails. In short, it’s a vibrant department where everyone is welcome!
